Whisky & The Wilderness

What better way to mark the launch of River Rock batch #2 than by summiting 3500 feet for a mountain adventure with good friends?

Thick snow at the summit, with 100ft vertical drops and narrow ridges made for a rewarding and memorable adventure ; a moment to reflect on how much we need to both appreciate and respect our natural world, and a reminder of why it is so important that we do what we can to protect it.

We, at River Rock, are very fortunate to work with a great group of individuals and companies so warmly welcomed the opportunity to mark the launch of our second batch with a mountaineering adventure hosted by good friends, Ocean Vertical.

Expertly lead by Stevie from Ocean Vertical, and joining Mark, were Izzy from the John Muir Trust, Innes from Bramblers, and Jonny McMillan from Berry Bros and Rudd.  We were also delighted to be joined this time by Mountaineer and Adventurer, Mollie Hughes and Alan Nash from Get After It UK.

The destination was the little known mountain wilderness of Black Mount, where we were to summit Stob Ghabhar. Some say it is the finest of the Black Mount Summits, characterised by its narrow rocky ridges and steep sides – more of which later!

Setting off before dawn, we were kitted out with ice axes and River Rock! Making steady progress up the first ridge, briefly joining the West Highland Way and enjoying the company of red deer stags and dippers along the way.

As with all good adventures, the conditions and landscape were ever changing and as the weather started to close in, it was waterproofs on and ice axes out for the snowy ascent. Snaking up single file with the snow and mist closing in.

Heading back down took us through even thicker snow until the weather cleared below the snowline, offering us a glimpse of the dramatic waterfall, as dusk started to settle

The evening culminated with a welcome dram around the fire and a toast to good friends.

By working with like-minded individuals and using our collective energies to make a positive contribution, we can all play our small part in protecting this wonderful wonky world we call home.

Thanks as always to the amazing talents of Charlotte and Steve at The Adventure Photographers for capturing the day so beautifully.
